Beginning and End

The beginning of our world, Marks the end of time before. The limitless universe Is bound by a nucleus, A single genome Gives frame to the galaxies. Humanity's virtues radiate From an infant's being: Altruism guides the hands, Courage leads to exploration, And love brightens the world By creating a smile. Humanity's vices exude From a killer's thoughts: Selfishness guides the knife, Cowardice leads to escape, And hatred darkens the world By pulling a trigger. The dying universe Withers with a corrupt life, A single death-throw Leads all to oblivion. The end of our world, Marks the beginning of time anew.

This poem illustrates the duality and often temporal aspects of human nature. The poem demonstrates that all humans, no matter their ethnicity, religion, nationality, race, or gender, express the good and bad aspects of human nature, thus making individuals more closely related than many believe. This poem also exemplifies how non-eternal the actions of man are. Acts of violence against others, global war, hatred of others, all of these things have little effect upon the Earth, and no effect upon the vast universe; when facing such an omnipresent entity, no single race, or nation, or people, will survive for long. The only way humanity will be able to survive in the universe for even a short amount of time would be for all humans to set aside their differences and band together, as a single (hopefully interplanetary) species.
