Beginnings and Ends

my beginning was you

and when you held me

in your arms and told me

forever, in that

moment i swear the world

stopped and listened.

my beginning was you

and when you took me

by the hand and told me

to run, since then not

once did my heart stop

racing for you

my beginning was you

and when you kissed me

for the last time and said

that you were sorry

(but all good things must come

to an end), i

was torn.

because my beginning

was you, and ends are

supposed to come to good

things, wrapped in weddings

bells and kept promises

and happily

ever afters

at least like they do in

the fairytales i read.

my beginning was you

but this is not a

fairytale; you were not

a prince, and i was

not a princess

we were just two brave and

foolish teenagers

who didn't know quite get

how to say the word good-

bye

my beginning was you

my ending was you.

we just got lost somewhere

along the way.
