Behind, Beneath, Beyond
Behind every remarkable story
There lies a startling plot
Behind every remarkable man
There lies a woman as his rock.
Below the heated turmoil
There lies a truth waiting to surface
Below every man-made roof
There sits a woman who serves a purpose.
Beneath the law
But above the heart
There awaits a strong woman
Ready and willing to do her part.
Beside the King’s, the Mandela’s and the Evers’
The Coretta’s, the Winnie’s and the Myrlie’s tread along
Beside the Shabazz’s, the Obama’s and the Cleaver’s
The Betty’s, the Michelle’s and the Kathleen’s stood strong.
Beyond the painful stitches and the boiling stoves
Stood the wives of freedom so proud and tall
Beyond the men who moved the nation to it’s feet
Stood a group of wives who endured it all.
