Behind Closed Doors

Listening to them fight again

Trying not to burst into tears

She calmly talks to her sisters about church

Where they're going to escape this here

They brush their hair and their teeth

As she gently closes the door

She goes outside, takes a deep breath

Wondering what they're fighting for

It seems like a daily thing now

She can't wake up without the sound

Her parents yelling for one thing or another

Thinking, she walks around

PaPa passed years ago

Grandma hates her for reasons unknown

The other has cancer

Her family falling apart

She prays for strength searching for the answer

Why does this house not feel like a home

Seconds from tears, her sisters walk out the door

Ten minutes later, here at the church

Instead of bringing her worries, she fakes a smile

Nobody knows, and no one suspects

The things that she only wishes to deny
