Behind Closed Doors

Behind closed doors

I am lyrics I can relate to

And sad songs on repeat

To block out the world I’m not sure I want to be a part of.

Behind closed doors

I am scattered papers, pens, highlighters,

And seven consecutive hours of studying

To get the high grade for a class I couldn’t care less about.

Behind closed doors

I am trash bins full of tissues

And tear stained pillow cases

To remind myself it’s okay to feel things.

Behind closed doors

I am candy wrappers, cartons of ice cream

And days worth of binge eating

To remember that there doesn’t always have to be a bitter taste in my mouth.

I am a lot of things you will never see

Judge a book by its cover and a person by his social media

And you may never learn what is truly inside.

I’ve got a mind that never stops thinking

And a heart that never stops beating

But all you’ll ever see is only skin deep.
