Behind the Face
I am nothing more than a simple man
Wrapped in the complexities of the unplanned.
I am not great, nor mighty, nor strong, nor able,
But I pride myself in that I’m capable.
I look for kindness in the corrupt,
I seek patience in those who interrupt.
I acquire greatness from the meek,
And I find my strength amidst the weak.
I believe in a God who is bigger than life,
And yet- I still see strife
Amid the weary, the distraught,
The broken, the lost.
I wish I could say I had more than determination,
But I’m left with nothing more than frustration.
I’m stuck in this dull rotation
Inside an unknown location.
Faced with fear and temptation
Seeking elation, and finding probation.
All I need is a station,
One with solid foundation,
Organized with oration,
-Enter salvation.
I have been saved by a God.
One deserving of Laud.
Alas I’m still broken, doomed to fail-
Just a dog, chasing my tail.
And then, I look up to future still there;
I pat down my shirt and rustle my hair.
Optimistic they say. That’s who I am.
That’s what I live for. That’s why I stand.
