Behind the Imperfections
I am only human.
By nature, I am flawed.
Yet I strive for myself to be perfected.
In this troubled, broken world.
I know that perfection,
Is something that I will never reach.
But I choose to aim high,
For all of my goals.
I know that if I aim for the stars,
Then the skies, I will surely reach.
I am only a girl.
But I am strong.
I found my way out,
Of the deep, dark, cold waters of yesterday.
They all say that I am not capable,
Of achieving my dreams,
But I know that I am.
And I will not let anyone's opinion of me,
Get in my way.
I am still young,
And they tell me that I do not know who I am,
Or what I want from life.
They say I have got a lot to learn.
Which is the truth.
But even though I am young,
I have a lot of spirit.
I hold so much light and life.
And my desire, one of my goals in life,
Is to spread my light to others.
To help others escape,
From the daunting darkness that may stain their complex minds.
I am a sister,
A granddaughter, a cousin, a niece,
A friend.
I love, I laugh, I smile.
I argue, I fight, I smirk.
Sometimes, I know, I'm selfish.
Sometimes, I walk away.
Yet I strive to be loving and kind.
I try to be the best person that I can.
But I know that sometimes I fail.
I am only a teen.
I balance school with my home life,
And everything in between.
Youth groups, martial arts, volunteering,
Family and friends.
There are nights that I do not sleep well,
And nights that I pass out.
I have dreams, regrets, goals,
To fulfill, forget, achieve.
I am only human.
I can be selfish, I can be rude.
I am, by no means at all, perfect,
Nor will I ever be.
I forget things, at times,
And there are days when all I want to do is sleep.
However,
There are things that make me special.
The jumbled mess which, somehow, someway,
Makes perfect sense to me.
That makes up my personality,
That makes me who I am.
I am imperfect.
This is very true.
But my imperfections have to contend,
With my better qualities.
Behind the imperfections, lies my happy, bubbly self.
Behind the imperfections, my love for life stands tall.
Behind my imperfections,
Behind the walls that I have built,
My true self seeks the light.
Behind the imperfectness of my humanity,
Are the better parts of me.
I have my-self motivation, my strong will.
I have my unquenchable curiosity, which, to me, is a wonderful thing.
I am empathetic, and kind.
So, even though I am only human,
And I have my imperfections,
Behind those imperfections,
I am perfect in my own way.
