Behind the Man

For all of life I have been strong,
Moved forewards with a high head.
But there is one thing I cannot hide for long,
This secret I carry in my bed.

I was a man amoungst men,
A leader of leaders.
But that was all back then,
Never again shall I hear those cheers.

So here I will sing my song,
The song my heart has bled.
To call me a stalwart man is wrong,
That man I was shall soon be dead.

I am but a girl that is hidden,
Tucked inside the man they held dear.
This girl shall cry out to heaven,
Her voice free of her fears.

I am woman, and I will no longer be a man.
No longer shall I hide my hand.
