Behind the Mask

Mask of black

Head to toe

Hold the tears back

So no one will know

Behind the mask

The real me

Cannot finish simple tasks

But good will come to ones who see

Behind the mask

Tears of red drop from my arm

Yet no one will ever ask

Why would one cause such harm?

Labels come from everywhere

“Emo! You worship the devil!”

With a mask, no one will care

“You’re just a stupid lesbian rebel!”

Remove my mask!

I beg and plead!

Then myself I stop and ask…

Rainbow tears of hatred, they would see…

They would see the real me

Quiet and small

Please don’t look! I beg and plea

Like a dead leaf, let me fall

They would see what I dislike

Not think twice about my heart

“You are just a stupid dyke!”

Watch me, watch me, fall apart

Behind the mask I hide

Recounting when I grabbed my knife

Praying, praying, I would die

The nights I attempted to take my life

Behind the mask I have been betrayed

The scars do remain

Although I can live without the blade

I still crave to slice my vein

Mask of black

Head to toe

Hold the tears back

So no one will know…
