Behind the Mask

You said you changed, and I let you in

Should've bewared the mask that hid what's within

Not before, but after my time with you

I'm better off without

Your presence tasted of poison fruit

Sweet, but harmful when known to truth

Always trying to bring darkness to me

Oh, how well that worked, you've seen

Your perfection was my demise

Just for me to look in the mirror and criticize

Turn my head away from what keeps me alive

Both physically and mentally agonize

Starving and craving for someone to hear

Everyday, getting more and more antsier

All the pain and fear you've caused from hell

Neatly tucked away behind the mask you wear so well

Our friendship was so true and pure

Though your intentions were one to endure

It's not the end, it's only just begun

You'll always end up being like the moon to my sun

You come back only to be pushed away

Tell me, will it forever be this way?

When I finally find light in my life

Seemed so eager to cut that golden bond with a knife

The same knife you used to hurt me, times before

Tell me, is it worth it anymore?

The mask you hide behind, so strong

Sends shivers down my spine, is it really wrong?

You made me feel like I was dying inside

I even believed I might actualize

That's when I knew, that everything shown was true

So I took the first step in starting anew

I took your knife that ruined relations

Not just mine that you've caused complications

And I cut off the rusted bond tied to you

'Cause I'm better off without you

Only then would I find

My state of peace in mind

I built myself up from the ground

To be surprised to find the happiness I found

So keep chasing me Moon,

For I have found fortune

Go ahead, keep that mask, it won't help you

But the Sun must move on, 'Cause I'm better off without you
