Being

I am
I am more often than I am not
I am not as sweet as honey or as my little sister
But people like me because I listen

And I expect everyone to be as good-natured as I am
And when they're not I always end up hurt

I write about love too much because he's always on my mind
And I don't know the right words to say when my best friend is crying
So I just get sad too

I'd eat a pack of Oreos a day if they wouldn't make me fat
And my black lab is the only one who deserves to know all my secrets

I want to save the world, but they won't let me donate blood
I think marching bands are overrated, but I still think he looks cute in his uniform

And I wish someone would write a song with sitar and steel drums
Because they both sound like paradise

And I'd like to think that there were a few Jews who survived the Holocaust
Who looked back and thought
"That was an adventure"

And I wish karma worked instantly so no one would ever be mean
And I wish everyone got what they deserve

I'd have a cat if it stayed a kitten forever

And sometimes I'd rather float than walk
And I've convinced myself that haters just wish they could be a jellyfish like me

And if I had a chance to ride my bike on the sun
I wouldn't
Because I'm still scared to ride a bike
But I'd walk if you'd walk with me

My edges get rougher every weekend
But I don't think I could disappoint my parents if I tried

I'm not sure if there's a point to this other than to show you that maybe we're alike
In more ways than one

And maybe
Maybe
There's a "we" between this me and this you
