Being a Girl

being a girl means being sexualized since birth

girl hood is boys making fun of you because they like you

it means ur beauty determines your worth

being a girl means you have to like pink not blue

it means playing with barbie’s not cars

girlhood is ur mom saying beauty hurts

being a girl is catching butterflies in jars

girlhood is showing off your body

just for male validation

is is boys calling you a hottie

it all just leads to frustration

constantly at war with other girls

shouldn't we be on the same team

sharing tips, makeup and pearls

this all feels a little extreme

but hey that's just girlhood

right

being a girl is doing your makeup

girlhood is wearing dresses and heels

it means thinking about how much space you take up

being a girl is filled with little squeals

girlhood is painting your nails

it means curling each others hair

being a girl is telling ur friends all the details

girlhood is having to choose the bear

it means you cant walk home alone

being a girl is having to shove his hands away

girlhood is fearing the unknown

it means being forced to put yourself on display

girl hood is easy they say

but they have not lived through it

their worth is not based on how much they weigh

their hands never know when to quit

we fear the majority of men

because we cant take the chances

it has happened again and again

girl hood is being raised

to protect yourself from men

yet how come they always get praised

but hey that's just being a girl
