Being Me
Do you know where you stand?
Not physically
Not where your feet touch the ground
But where your heart lies
For me,
acting on my heart
is difficult
Can you notice when I'm being me?
Can you notice when I'm being everyone else?
Do you notice when my friends make jokes about others
that I laugh with them
but it never reaches my eyes?
Or that whenever I drink vodka mixed with dutch bros
with my classmates, my heart starts to pound
because to me it feels wrong?
They say be yourself
but how can you do that
when you just want to fit in
to feel accepted
Being me
Was a hard thing to do
I had to work, to get myself
To being a hundred percent me
Listen to your heart
Be brave
Keep your head high
Be you and nothing else
