Being Normal

The world has a way

of changing people,

and killing people

who want to be themselves.

But who gets to decode what is normal?

or abnormal?

Kids getting teased

because they don't

speak, or think,

or sound, or act

like others?

Or those who grow up

being called names

as if stupid was the stick

and fatty, the stone.

So the "abnormal" children

grew believing that there

was, and is something wrong with them.

And the weird part is that they themselves don't see it.

and they sit in the middle of the field

emptying their hearts

of the names and memories

to feel nothing

while the others, ran in the sun

because they knew they were favored and loved.

Many grew up taught that they were regular

and those different shouldn’t be included.

And though teachers say

that everyone is the same,

one is given a hug

while the other is told

to "get over it".

But though the "regulars" are off

enjoying life normally,

normal is mainstream.

We can bask in our weirdness.

Because we are special,

and special is amazing.

We are the underdogs,

and we are not what we are called.

We are the world’s greatest humans.

and to be human, isn't that enough?
