Being Social

Every thought is documented,

across the globe, throughout the day.

Personal life—an open book;

online for the whole world to see, and prey.

The drama, the agony, the hoots, and the tears;

social media is a billboard for our thoughts and our fears.

The idea is perfect, a virtual community of friends.

But the reality is much different, it’s all just pretend.

Why do we allow, this control of our lives?

An addiction, like meth, in a flawless disguise.

Shattering homes and taking lives.

Why? Tell me why, can’t we open our eyes?

The name it was given, is my favorite of all.

“Social Media,” is what it is unanimously called.

But how can that be,

when it makes us not social at all?
