To the Bell Jar that holds us all
I have not known anything past this bell jar.
Light streams through,
But I refuse to acknowledge it
Time has broken this jar
Fractures across the glass
Cold air rushing through the gaps
Biting my vulnerable body
Shards of glass crashed all around me
Cutting and nicking my skin
Over, and over, and over
My world is being pierced
The outside world has come to collect their dues
I hold back tears
And feel the buildup behind my throat
My chest tightens.
The wind’s sharp edge ravishes my exposed back
My body curls up from the chill
I can feel my blood running cold
My heart continuously pumps; defiant to death
I am,
I am,
I am
Before, it was humid and suffocating
The air was stagnant and thick with misery
I used to let the cool surface of the floor keep me company.
Now, my tears fall and merge on the polished marble under me.
The burden of life is too much for my shoulders
With my shell shattered, I had nothing left out in the cold
I know I should leave
I know I should stand
But temperature won’t change my misery
I’m scared to leave my broken jar
I’m scared to leave my life
I’d rather die in a world I know
Than live in one I don’t
