To Belong
Been battling to find myself in this big world.
My being has long fought with itself to assert itself around.
But the constant ups and downs have taken a toll on my soul.
Every moment survived is pain lived through crooked smiles and invisible tears of dejection.
Will I be accepted for who I am and for not what I pretend to be?
To belong is something which would complete my being.
To belong would ascertain my identity in the universe.
Somewhere, somehow, someday I will belong to myself.
My being won’t be confined to the ideas that threaten to strip away its freedom.
Someday I will belong to myself again.
I will enjoy life without constantly looking over my shoulder for the worst.
One day I will get there.
The finish line of belonging might seem distant right now.
But one day I will get there.
And when I get there,
I will shout joyfully to myself,
Because I will belong,
To no one,
But to myself.
