The Bench

Today I lay on the bench outside and gazed above into the endless blue

There was a striking contrast between the chilling, dark iron that touched my skin

And the warm, bright sky that met my eyes.

I’m not sure what I was looking for

But I was delighted with what I found

Hope.

A chance at leading a happy, fulfilling life, and the freedom to do it.

I sat up and began to reach

Reach up, stand up on the bench, and jump up

Trying to overcome the schism

Trying to become one

With hope.

I know that it’s there

And I know that it’s not going anywhere

It’s left to me to dream

It’s left to me to reach

It’s left to me

To hope.
