Beneath the Sky

Beneath the Sky Marissa Birmingham Why do I struggle to hold my head high Beneath a clear, blue sky? It makes sense when there is rain. In the end, It is from the pain. Inflicting scars, Decorating my heart. They never fully healed, I kept the pain concealed. Is it too much to ask for relief? I wonder if there is a way to cheat, To ultimately defeat The constant struggle. Thunder all around, Lightning strikes the ground, All I can hear is the sound of my heart pound. As the clouds race away, They bring brightness to the day. They rarely ever stay. Whether I am up or down, I smile, I frown. Memories still linger, Always there to taunt me, Making it hard to hold my head high Even in the simplest of times.
