Beside the Tree

Clear blue sky holding the image

Of a curly red head with bright blue eyes

In a long white dress walking down the aisle

With her daddy by her side

Giving her away to a man

Who was there when I could not

When I wanted to run

At the same time, wanted to stay.

She says those words so pure

Yet, I feel my heart break

From beside the tree

Far enough to be hid

Loud enough to break

Hoping a bag would appear

To collect the pieces falling

So I can find someone to glue them back

From a man who was not ready

Yet, could not shake the best thing.

From beside the tree,

I watch as her heart grows bigger

As mine breaks into pieces.
