For the Best

I love you.

But I can’t tell you.

I can’t bring you with me

On this slowly sinking ship.

I know it hurts.

It hurts me too.

But believe me

You’ll be better off without

This mess I call my life.

Maybe in another world

at another place and time

We could have been something.

But not now.

You, you’ll go on to bigger and better things.

While I watch from afar

Or maybe not at all.

Because even though I know I can’t

I do still love you.

But It’s my duty to let you go

To live the life you were meant to live.

Not the one I drag you into

Because I know I’m going down.

My life is a ticking time bomb.

But you’re not coming with me.

Not if I can help it.
