Best Friend

Dear Best Friend,

Have I ever thanked you truly? Do you know what you are to me?

Well, you are

An extremely kind person,

Complimenting my art

All my work

Even when I think it’s horrible

Especially when I think it’s horrible.

A funny person as well

You amuse me in class

Sleepovers, whenever

Collapsing and shaking with laughter

Over a shared inside joke

A generous person, too

Giving me gifts on my birthday

And Christmas

And just because

Despite me not having anything for you

I should’ve had something for you

A creative person

I would say you think outside of the box

Except for the fact that for you

There never was any box

Artistic, craft-minded, crazy

A weird person

Always getting distracted with ADD

Dragging me into fandoms and obsessing over bands

Always trying to get me involved

Well, it’s working

Sometimes you irritate me

Sometimes I annoy you

Always we annoy other people

Thing One and Thing Two

You were always be there for me

Will always still be there

A safe house in a storm

And we both know

That we can’t be apart for long

Two peas in a pod

Best friends

Forever.

I wrote this poem originally simply to get into a scholarship, but I ended up really thinking about what my best friend means to me (hint, a lot). I know you can't see this, Kimia, I commend you nontheless. Please continue being an amazing person, bestie (:
