A Best Friend's Thoughts

Oh! It's You

I have been waiting

I missed You

There is this boy I have been dating

And I want him to meet You

But I know You don't want to

And You are here and You want nothing to do with Me

Because He told You to stay away from Me

Will You really trust Him blindly

Will you pick Him or Me

I don't want to give you an ultimatum

But You want Him not Me

So You choose Him

But He won't really choose You back

And You know that

But you're "In Love"

And you want it to be forever

But nothing lasts forever

So, You say "It's Fate"

But Fate is only for those who can't write their own story

But you CAN write your own story

You are just too scared to try

You are too scared You will blame Yourself

So You won’t try

And when He breaks Your heart

And He WILL break Your heart

You will fall

And You will regret it all

And You will come crawling back to Me

But I won’t always be there to solve Your problems

You need to make the choice

You have to write your own story

Or let Him write it for You

And maybe You will

You’ll break up with Him and start fresh

And six months later, there is a new “Him”

And after it falls apart

You will go looking for Me

But I won’t be there

Because I will hate myself every day for not saving You

Then I will have to stop trying

I have to leave

We can still be friends

It just won’t be the same

Unless You end it

Because we are on the fifth “Him”

And it a never-ending cycle

I watch you fall in love

I watch Him tear You down

I watch You see the problems

I watch You try to end things over and over

He will always say

“I will be better”

“Just give me one more chance”

“I still love you”

“I only cheated once, we all make mistakes”

“Wait until our lease ends”

“Wait until I get another job”

They will NEVER let You end things

They will ALWAYS make excuses

And You will never stop them

You will belive them

You will defend them

Because You don’t want to start over

But You need to

You need a new page, a fresh start

And only then will YOU write YOUR story

And then,

You can truly be YOU

And You can be the girl they wouldn’t let You be

That is all I ever wanted for You

And next time there is a “Him”

He will be someone that You actually love

And He will love You back

And I will be right there by your side
