The Best Medicine
It keeps me grounded
When life gets too serious.
It’s there when I’m happy, excited,
And especially delirious.
It’s often associated with the good times,
But it gets me through the bad.
Reminding me it could always be worse,
And that joy will follow even the lowest points I’ve had.
In a room full of people
it quells the ego, the pretention.
In that same room it soothes my social anxiety
One of my many flaws that I’ve been afraid to mention.
It’s how I connect with others,
How I break down barriers in an instant.
It brings people together
Down a path that’s least resistant.
So if I were stuck on an island,
Forever and thereafter
The one thing I’d absolutely need and couldn’t live without,
Would have to be laughter.
