Best Place to Be
It started with a cough,
Hear sirens all around.
The population was depleting,
No savior to be found.
I try to keep my sanity,
For that’s all I can do.
My friends are gone,
Brains are what they chew.
I frantically pack.
I grab guns, knives, clothes, food and water.
There’s distant screams down my street
There’s going to be a slaughter.
These bullets aren’t enough
I’m going to need way more.
I grab my things
And sneak my way to the store.
My chest pounds rapidly
I quietly take bullets from the shelves
Then I hear the door open
And my heart caves into itself.
It had a rotten jaw
Had blood around its lips
It started walking towards me
Then the empty corpse trips.
This virus took my family
I want everything I had back
But I knew that wasn’t going to happen
So I took out my knife and everything went black.
I came back to myself
The creature was no longer moving.
I looked down at my clothes
Red was the color consuming.
Then I heard noise
A noise that made me smile
My best friend left a voicemail
She’s at the school, about a mile.
I find a car ready for use
Down the school street.
I see my dear friend
She was horridly beat.
She’s trapped here
Her light isn’t shone.
I smile and face her.
She won’t be alone.
Together
Best friend and me
Blood on our lips
The best place to be.
