The Best of Poetry and the Worst of Times

Poetry is a powerful ally

Of poets, lords, and kings.

It launches missiles into the minds

Of the innocent and brave,

Exploding in the form of actions

Famous and unaccounted.

Paul Revere, so well remembered

By Henry Wadsworth Longfellow,

Was famous for his historical ride,

That others might have found boring,

If not for a certain poet.

A personal soldier friend of mine

Was sent off with a poem of pride

For the country that he loved.

Heed you the famous words

Of poets old and new,

Because those poems might just be

What sends you out in uniform!
