The Best Thing You Ever Did For Me

Some say we can sense what those closest to us are feeling

Is that why I was never quite able to get into your mind?

The satisfaction in truth

It could’ve taken away everything you worked so hard to engrave into my being

Reality scratched deep enough to scar

But to you it was just another graze

Why can I only talk when I have nothing to say?

Silence brings back everything I lost

And I can’t say what I’d meant

When I open my mouth it all comes out

All the lies and bullshit

I can’t tell you what I felt

Or what you did to me

I still have my marks of reality

And I wish I could say

At least one of them had been accidental

I wish I could say you didn’t mean to hurt me

I wish I could lie to myself the way I did when I had you

I wish I could lie to myself the way you did

I wish that my fear of trusting someone

Had something to do with my family again

In retrospect, I’m glad you left

You carved into those pieces of me

You’d claimed you’d loved

Why would you change me?

Why did you make me unlovable?

Why did you create a monster?

Why did you take me away from me?
