Better Off

My parents, whomever they may be, were slaves Slaves to drugs, some literal, but most metaphorically Maybe if they had a direction Direction on life, the future, their love Maybe they would have been better off Somewhere down the line The line of false hopes and lies Society pulled the rug right from their feet Let them fall flat on their asses and pointed and laugh Laughed at their innocence Their ability to be so ignorant Their views upon who they were Maybe they would have been better off Religion could have saved them There wouldn't be a temptation to hurt A revelation to uplift them from their pits of wrong A vow that would hold them together Instead of snatching them apart Maybe they would have been better off Dad would have met a loving woman With no baggage A woman that was slow to anger A woman with no passion Someone with not too much hurt Maybe they would have been better off Moms would have met a guy like her father A lad who kept his hands to himself A lad who loved only her A lad rich with soul, not money Maybe they would have been better off No ill feelings would be cast upon one another No sadness would fill these walls Air would be easier to breathe Love would be a second nature, no choice For their sake Maybe they would be better off
