Better Times

Dear better cliches,

Oh, how I cherish the fact

Highschool ends in no more than six months.

“The End is all I hear”

Like the closing credits of a tragic stunt

Like all of Shakespeare’s plays that I was forced to read in my English class

Oh, how I cherish the fact

Friends and enemies align

Left behind for new replacements

Like the broken pencils and loose designs

That are left on every single classroom floor

Oh, how I cherish the fact

Life has only just begun

These past four years were simply a test run

Like those tests you took every friday

Despite your misunderstanding of the material

Oh, how I cherish the fact

I will continue to countdown the days

Like when your teacher says "five minutes left of class"

Those last ten seconds become a haze

Only to be told "the bell does not dismiss you"

Yet, you slip out the door and move on to bigger and better cliches
