Better Than You Know Yourself
He knows you better than you know yourself.
He can decide what you want to do with your life,
What you're capable of, the breadth of your will,
He can take away your power,
Whittle you down to nothing,
Fill you with the stuff of his hopes and dreams.
She knows you better than you know yourself,
and because of that, you're what she wants you to be.
You're not a person, not the person you know,
and you haven't grown into yourself.
You've grown into her and for her,
Because she knows you better than you know yourself.
When he's not there to guide you,
When she's not there to lead you,
You break, you fall, you tumble,
Because that's what you allowed to happen.
You let them say they know you better than you know yourself,
And now there's no self to go back to.
