Beyond the lens

(Snap) let me take a picture and post

so I can show and display that I have my life together

i'm smiling in this photo, I have my uniform for work on in this photo

i have a Valencia filter and the brightness way up

with the caption "working hard for the future #grinding"

20 likes in 10 minutes and oh I'm not gloating

i'm just happy everyone now has the assumption that I'm fine

cause after that camera lens comes down the mirage of editing and hopeful captions fades

and I'm just left with the truth about my current struggle, the proof is all over my face

had to pick Valencia cause its the only one that could hide the bag's under my eye's

cause the stress of not being able to pay for college keeps me up night

made sure I had my work attire on for exactly that reason, to show I'm getting money, working hard

even if I'm barely getting the hours I need

had to tell everyone in the caption that I'm working hard for a future, one that I'm not sure of

had to give false reinsurance to those who care about me cause I never want to be pitied

i just want to let people know I'm fine because all handle this my self

even though every part of me wanted to just discard the filters and caption that picture "please help"

the person through the lens and the filters, is falling

but i know deep down

beyond that lens I have the heart of Rocky Balboa

without those filters I can be illuminated by determination

and without a false caption I am a person who will make a future for himself

because beyond that lens

I am hope
