This world was real different
A colorless shame
Black and white amidst turmoil
Like a villainous scene
But through all
Comes greatness
Comes leaders, artists, thinkers
Believers, receivers
Growing the seeds of this planet
Into a world of opportunity
You see, once upon a time
Reality kicked us with cruelty
Like Langston Hughes
It was a dream deferred
For those on the darker side of the scale
But a dream deferred may fester like a sore
But it never dies, as long as we try
And they tried, the sore recovering
Because like JT Bruce
The desire to dream is primordial
Living life through their anguish, struggle
The yes sir and slave service on the double
But still living through the hearts of champions
Sojourner Truth, Malcolm X, Langston Hughes
Giving up the petty demand of shining shoes
Jackie Rob, Madam C.J, Rosa Parks
Lit the spark
Of a new generation
With spirit, power, aspiration
Integrating a multi-cultural nation
Like Martin Luther King Jr.
I have a Dream
That one day we could live in harmony
So I take a quick glance and what do I see
Every race, face and smile
Much different than that time where we suffered for a while
But to our own avail
One door closed, but a bigger one opened
For all my black brothers
Black mothers, sistas, fathers
And even for the oppressors
To integrate a new love for the “other”
To mitigate the other and make this an us
A multi racial community with ingenuity
Diversely fighting adversity
So today on this day, this week, this month
We celebrate and recreate the ideals and memories
Of our fellow black members of society
Commemorating those who brought the opportunity
And remember the word
That a dream deferred
Is unheard of
When we collectively fight for our ideals
For this is black history
The mystery
Of how we became accepting of ethnicity
And made right the wrongs of discrimination
Oppression, imperialism, isolation
Integrating a multi-cultural nation
Where everywhere we go
People wanna know
Just who we are
So we tell them
We are the mighty Titans
A team of brothers joined in arms, perishing the barriers of race
Let us remember them well
With peace, love and success
And gander upon today
Where hope and change is looming around us
Our very own executive seat
Occupied by a man of this here celebration
Inspiring us all and opening the gates of opportunity
The prez Obama
Some say elected by race
By those who do don’t recognize the grace
That his position of power has brought to this place
Overcoming boundaries never sought before
Obama a symbol of the modern day
Representing to us all that we
Can all be what we wanna be
And see what we wanna see
Without the repercussions of our skin
So I ask that we all stand and stand tall
Carrying our pride, our abilities, our face
To a world only foretold in stories
A world of equality, of respect and redirect it to greatness!
As we gather and celebrate
Black history!
