Big Blue Boxes
Dear,
2020
The big blue boxes were my biggest fear
I'd see them in June and my eyes would tear.
The fright I had was truly unbearable because it only ever meant change was soon here.
I had planned the summer to be fun and glad
but instead, it would be filled with me and my thoughts.
I never enjoyed leaving because I hated the change
because why couldn't everything stay the same.
Sometimes I would have sleepless nights and listen my parents talk
"I don't think I can do it anymore"
,"but we need to it's the only way to raise them."
I'd tear up at the conversations my parents had,
the times I'd see them in pain because of the jobs they had
they always told me education was the right way
but they were uneducated in almost every single way
my mother and father never had an education
but they preached it like the Bible to the new generation.
Now every time I see them I give them a hug and a thank you
because the fear I used to have is no more
and the big blue boxes lie dormant forevermore.
