Bipolar’s Wife

Tonight, I go to bed, another day gone

When I wake next to my husband,

When his eyes open, will he be there?

Awake and vigilant or a spirit downtrodden

His posture straight or his gait lumbering

My eyes strain from watchful wait

His choice of words will bring the tiding

I’ll be ever watchful in my surfing

Plunging breakers or soft spillers

Sunny day brings me hope

Dreary day is a fence-walk

Losses and gains, flowering or cowering

Sunshine with a chance of fog or rain

Two selves, doubling songs and sorrows

Twice the giggles or the gut-wrenching sobs

Breakfast in bed, or a total abandonment

Bottomless hope and merciless fright

My bright tenor, poor husband

One day in tune, the following, out

Play the waltz, I’ll dance tonight

If you lead me
