Bird Prison

I’m a bird that wants to fly

Fly, fly far away, so far and so high

But I’m trapped

Behind a set of bars and a padlock, locked

I want to sing,

Crooning, caroling, and trilling

But songs have been sealed away

By your weighty dismay

And even though I’m here,

I should be there

Where all my hopes are happening

and where they’re all fading

I’m a bird that has wings

Not a penguin, nor a dodo, or a Cuban flightless crane

But it’s no use

Because I’m trapped behind a set of bars, forever in curse.
