Birds

Ode to the creatures feathery in flight

Who’s bones, hollow, yet strong support their weight

Soaring above earth, above seas, our very sight

Are there none that you can hate?

Yonder flies the blue bird, brilliantly

Singing songs unto its maker

Proclaiming his existence freely

His pure life bearing witness of the savior

It’s up to us to see it rightly

Looking to the robin, is there not a more joy filled one?

Her tiny blue eggs, her soft summer song

Bathing her fragile self in the warmth of the sun

Her life short, her proclamation long

There saunters the turkey vulture

Lacking beauty, as well as charm

Though without this monster we would have no culture

Through his dirty profession and grotesque features, we’re protected from great harm

It’s up to us to see it rightly

Even the Raven has his given task

To rid the earth of rot and non- living creatures

A greater gift from him we could not ask

For God has called us to look deeper, beyond his ugly features

It is true that not all winged fowl are of the sweetest kind

Rather some are horrific and of seemingly deplorable make

While others still are of beauty and bring pleasure in the find

But the Creator had a purpose for each one, both for our and His sake

it’s up to us to see it rightly
