The Birds in my Yard

There are three types of bird in my yard / All to snatch up the leftover lard / First the starling, plain and brown / A cap of white made a soft crown / Ever present, the specter of spring / The hunt for food by downy wing / Next the falcon, a speck in the skies / Aloft, prowling, shining beaconed eyes / Never flying but for a span / Until the untimely arrival of man / And then the jay blown through / Towers of clouds, gray and blue / As royal and regal as outstretched wings / But the blue jay remains - the king of all kings / So the three types of bird in my yard / Coalesce into one - but always on guard.
