To the Birth of a Nation
To whom it may concern,
Neither of us know
The feeling of being denied our vote
Or being harassed in our neighborhood
Or pleading for food with rugged cardboard signs
Or being persecuted for our love
Or even the color of our biologically chosen skin
Because when granted three wishes,
We ask for three more
You believe in freedom
Only postwar
For opportunity brings oblivion
And fear of equality
Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness
Granted only by popular sovereignty
Human Rights is exhausted
From running in a circle
She’s been chasing your opinion
Through the gutter’s tunnel
When will we learn
The true meaning of privilege?
Stop your tweeting,
And help our Puerto Rican village
