Birthday Wish
I sit in the room watching the clock
At nine at night I think to my self three hours till I turn 19
Then I hear the question that everyone has been asking me since the beginning of Feburary
What do I want for my birthday?
A couple of hours till my birthday and still no answer.
I push the thought to the back of my brain.
I leave my room to do dishes.
Look at the clock on the stove
Ten only two hours left until I turn 19
Then the question pops back up.
What do I want for my birthday?
Well now I have an answer but it not something that I can get.
Once again I push the thought away.
Pull out my computer and start to write this poem.
Look at the bottom of my computer screen
11 one hour left till I am 19
No question pops up this time.
Only an image of the one thing I want but can't have for my birthday.
Someone who moved a couple of years ago.
Who has probably forgotten me and everyone in this small town
Yet I can not forget him.
11:22 only 38 minutes left until I turn 19
Still sitting in the room writing this poem.
My mom texts me asking again what do I want for my birthday.
I simply answer to spend time with my family that is the only thing I want for my birthday.
Since the one other thing I really want for my birthday is something I can not get.
I rather spend it with the many people I have.
The people who I love and the ones that haven't forgotten me.
11:30 only thirty minutes left until I get the best birthday wish yet.
