Bitter Betrayal
You know that feeling
That feeling you have in your chest
When you blindly trust someone
Because they said all the right words
In all the right times
Because they assured you and reassured you when you needed it most
Because their kindness and sweetness was something you longed for
Their presence left a feeling of warmth
A feeling of wholeness
That feeling fills the void inside of you
And so you rely on the source
You rely on the person who gives you that
But what happens when you see something you can’t unsee
When you slowly unravel the truth
You look at them and you don’t know who they really are anymore
That warm feeling in your chest
grows cold
That wholeness inside of you
Breaks up into pieces
And you’re left behind
Crippled on the cold cold floor
Picking up the pieces on your own
And they continue to fill you with that false sense of security
And you’re left wondering
Whether you should trust again or not
It’s like twisting that thorn deep into yo until you bleed from the inside out
Your chest doesn’t just grow cold
It grows unfeeling
Unfeeling to others
Unfeeling to their sincerity
Numb to everyone and everything
After all, that’s what your body is best at:
Self-protection
