Bittersweet Reality

As we are younger We think and we dream We fathom of all the things We could be Racing around on our Old stick horses Not bounded by the world And all its strict forces Our parents tell us We can be what we want If you work hard, stay in school They say nonchalant I want to be this I want to be that I want to be just like The cat in the hat A police officer, a doctor An athlete, a farmer A fire fighter, a teacher An astronaut or snake charmer They say it’s all possible They make it seem easy So that’s how you live life Not a care in the world, life easy-peasy So you go to school And you learn a lot You have fun, and play games And make friends on the spot Your dreams run wild And you begin to believe That you can become Anything you set out to be As time goes on The dreams have changed Things have gotten harder Plans re-arranged The dreams that you thought Would work out just grand Have turned and hit you Like a bitch slap from a hand No longer can you be An athlete of might Hell you can't even reach A looked upon height You want to be in space Ha-ha; you can forget it You’re not smart enough Come on man, admit it Dashed, broken, Tossed in the gutter People trash your dreams And discard them like clutter All those thoughts That was put in your head - were From those nine little words That your parents said “If you believe in yourself You can do anything” Well that’s a lie Stop dreaming So all said and done You make it to college Have a plan, have an action You have some knowledge But wait here we go A dream is again destroyed All your ideas Are now again void The way tuition is You’ll always be in debt So much money gone Your dreams end has now been met Go to school for 6 years With tuition in the thousands You’ll be lucky if you pay Less than what the cost of a house is So it’s time to get a job Maybe two at least Well three to be safe With four you can feast So schooling and work Not as fun as you thought In debt to your knees Every day you have fought So think back on your life Those childhood dreams The dreams to be great To be smart, to be pristine And then take a look at reality The pain, torture and hurt And really think to yourself Is this all it’s worth So don’t dream of candy Gold and chocolate fountains Instead live reality We are all a part of it.
