Black and White
It hurt
The words they said hurt me to the core
They had no clue what it was like to be different, to be me
Words spoke in the hallway. quiet enough so no one else could hear but loud enough so i could
Why are they saying this to me?
Why are they calling me names
Questions whirled around in my head
I'm different
I knew that but i didnt know that being different would cause others to stare
It would cause them to make quick judgements and throw glances at me
This feeling in the pit of my stomach would creep back everyday
As soon as i walked through the doors the feeling would come back
The reason they stared is because I was something they couldnt ever be, different
I stood out of the crowd
I was not another face in the sea of kids that flooded the hallway
I was African American in an all white school
But I dont let my skin color define who I am
I am loud
I'm crazy
I am gentle
I am compassionate
I'm emotional
I am competetive
I am wise
I am self-conscious
I am a wishful thinker
I am a dreamer
I am one in a million
I am me
and the color of my skin doesnt change that
