Black and White

I walk into school

Ready for the day

Ready for what’s waiting

But something feels different,

I’ve come without my mask,

Yet I still try to cover my pain.

The gates that close around me

Remind me of the chains I once was enclosed in

I walk into a class

And instead of students

I see soldiers and fighters

Some dancing in victory

While others half dead

Some being given a medal for their work

While others being shunned and sent to prison

I sit down in my seat

Waiting

Waiting

Waiting

For the lesson to start

What life lesson am I going to be taught today?

Why do we get taught that the world has no faults?

If the world has no faults

Then it must be me with them.

As I put my hand up to ask a question,

Everyone turns around

Shooting me with bullets made from their eyes

I put my hand down

I don’t need to ask

Anything, anymore

I’ve got an answer

Everything has it’s own time and place

Just like in the battlefield

We’re only taught what they want us to know

We only fight for what they want us to fight for

I don’t have any knowledge on wars

Because I’m still a fifteen year old mind

But what I do understand

Is that we all have to fight battles

With each battle

A new scar

With a new scar

A new painful memory

And with each painful memory

A part of  me broken

But scars fade

And pain heals

And the memories will fall

Just like the petals of a rose

Slowly and softly

So I’m back in the class again

And I don’t know what I’ve learnt.

I look,

Outside the window

And try to understand why

The sky is no longer blue

And why the grass is no longer green

But now I know

All I’ve been taught

Is black

And

White

And that colour is just a pigment

Of my imagination

Just like

Every

Dream

I’ve ever had…
