Black Bird

Like Tupac said the blacker the berry the sweeter the juice

So never let anyone talk down on you

You are kings and queens pick your head up stand up tall never let your crown fall

Remember the whips and chains you come from

Take that and remember there’s still work to be done

Understand what your ancestors enountered to get where we are today

A society still programming people to think being black is not okay

So let's not stop and just go with the flow

Speak up and make sure they know

Tell them that you are magical and your skin dark and radiant like no other

The same dark skin and coarse hair inherited from strong black fathers and  mothers

The same skin that police mark as criminals and thugs

When will we all be able to get along and stop spreading hate but show love ?

That's something that we've been fighting since Sojourner truth, Martin Luther king, David Richmond, Franklin McCain, Ezell Blair, Joseph McClain, Malcolm x

Now you're up next

It's your turn to teach our young black babies to elevate  and endure the skin they're in

It's your turn to teach them to never let this society this world poison them in feeling like being black is a curse

That Our black skin sets us up for nothing but the worse

Unfortunately it’s the reason we face so many things today but remember it’s all apart of a plan

It doesn’t  matter what religion, Sexuality, Size or shape, because the police, this society,  this world hates to see us stand

so let's all unite and join hands

Black brothers and sisters that means don't violate and manipulate each other

Show one another the same respect a young child shows their mother

Brothers don't leave the women to take care of our babies

Cause that creates a cycle of babies that don't know how to treat a lady

Sisters you are more than your hips and thighs

You are strong, intelligent, variant what matters the most is not what men see with their eyes but when you can bring to the table from what's inside

So never let nobody soul tell you otherwise

Again let's show them what we all can do when we work together

Remind them that #BlackLivesMatter

KIERRAAVENT

I am a senior at Benjamin Banneker Academic High school and I attend to go into college studying African American Studies in order to move on to a masters in that same major. With this degree in Afro-American studies I will further educate those around me, while creating programs that aid in defying the norms put in place for people of color.
