Black Circus

The arena was dark

I sit here waiting for my childhood to replay through my eyes

A single spotlight of a man dressed in black waved his gold wand

to begin the show with elephants,

then the lions performing their tricks,

later it rolled on with the acrobats,

followed by the flamming ring

Just as i though the circus was over

clowns appeared from the dark corners,

They were not normal as I remember

their make-up was smeared

no smile was dancing across their face

but a frown that hid their hate

Panick took to the crowd

as a burst of electricity filled the room

I could feel the nightmares from the back coming forward

the arena went black again

gold dust fell from the top of the tent

then my ears blocked out the minor chords of the organ

and my eyes drifted to a close

When i awoke, the tent was quiet and cold

there was a clown from across the row

his frown was smiling

I watched in silence as it disappeared

What i have written has come true

What i have drempt is now

I never meant for the Black Circus.
