Black Eyeliner

Black Eyeliner

I close the door behind me

Turning the quiet up

And shutting the noise out

I stand square in front of my reflection

Two round eyes stare back at me

I open the glass cabinet

And the routine begins

In small circles I rub the moisturizer

Across my face

Next the slick liquid mask of concealer

Wipes away the exhaustion

Powder dusts across my cheeks

To set the perfection

I reach into my bag of tricks

And dip my brush into

The inky black pot

I frame my lashes with a thin black line

I open them and look

And think

Funny how one thin black line

Is all it takes

To give me the confidence

To face the day.
