Black Girl

I am a black girl

A black girl slandered for being black

Just a black girl slandered for being on track

Maybe even a black girl slandered for what I lack

I am a black girl slandered for being a little too black

Too black since my hair doesn’t flow in the wind

Too black since my tight coils and curly fros are considered naps

Too black since my language is considered slang

Yes I am slandered for that

I am a black girl

A black girl with goals

Just a black girl but wont be defined as an “average black girl”

You know the same average black girl society makes us out to be

Loud talking, gum chewing, ghetto living black girl

The black girl with no hair

The same black girl over there

Yes the average black girl

I am a black girl

A black girl who will be defined as too black

Too black for my accomplishments

Too black for my confidence

To black since I won’t need your compliments

I am a black girl  a black girl slandered for being too  black

I am a black girl who is just too black and I will accept that

If you can accept the fact that the same black girl who is too black will be back

I am the black girl who is just too black
