The Black Hippy of 1997

I'm the daughter of an immigrant. I'm the daughter of an alcoholic. I'm the girl who shouldn't have lived that day but she found her higher calling. Brought up by the rugged cross. Got caught up and love was lost. Single parent and just me. My bible got dusty. I couldn't even trust me. Then I moved to another door and it was me vs. four. And it was me vs. God. Just me vs. religion. Me vs. sexuality. Me vs. racism. Prejudice towards myself. Prejudice towards others. I needed serious help. I am not my father nor my mother. I had to find inner peace. Had to figure out who I am. Sleep is for the weak. I had to stay awake to see the promised land. So I did.I'm the daughter of an immigrant. I'm the daughter of an alcoholic.
