Black Lives Matter

Last night some one made an Instagram post. "Black America  please stop appropriating African clothing and tribal marks. Yes, that means everyone at Afro punk too!"

Black girl slave.
Black girl not African enough
Black girl Toby not Kunta
Black girl nigga not negus

Last week my friend told me the story of her mothers graduation at a predominantly white college.  Her grandfather came dressed in a new suede suit. He stopped a college administrator and asked to be directed toward his daughter. They directed him toward the kitchen.

Black girl mammy
Black girl American, no history
Black girl not know where she came from.
Black girl colored, red white and blue

Tomorrow black girl will be faced with what she has accepted as her reality. Tomorrow black girl will be stereotyped. Black girl will watch her people die both literally and metaphorically. Tomorrow black girl will be considered another number.

But tomorrow:
Black girl does not cry
Black girl prays
Black girl breaks stereotypes
Black girl is determined to be successful.
Black girl lives. Black girl matters.
