Black Matter

I am nothing

Nothing special or infamous

I am nobody to know

No one to remember

I am just an empty shell of someone

I have forgotten, perhaps never known

I am tipping precariously

Atop a mountain of faces

They are all lies

And not one of them is mine

I can see you with blurring eyes

Maybe you hear what I haven’t said

Or maybe you are nothing, too

But you are reaching me

You are reaching out to nothing

And I am scared of giving you nothing

I feel like I am falling

And I’m sorry, but I can’t stop

You’ve climbed so high to see me

And here I am, ready to plummet

But you must understand

I want someone to hear me fall

And you were the one to reach out to nothing

And you were the one to grasp nothing

And when you fall, too

You cannot blame me, surely

Because you grabbed onto me

And nothing was there
